Addison Gallery of American Art - Phillips Academy - Andover, MA

(texte en français ci-dessous)

A gallery well worth a visit in the very New England city of Andover, at the more than prestigious Phillips Academy. It's at about 20 miles from Boston.

Small museum is a better name to describe this place full of American Art masterpieces on 3 floors in about 6 galleries. Some  are very unusual like its superb collection of models American ships, some are cutting edge. There's also an extensive collection of photographs shown on a rotating basis in thematic exhibitions. All of that for the education of students, of course, but also for the general public.

It's another addition to the new page "Beyond Boston" at Urban Trekking Boston.

David August | DJ live | Brighton Music Hall | Boston
(texte en français ci-dessous)

A single bad photo doesn't do justice to the energy and creativity at play yesterday evening at Brighton Music Hall for a sold out show by German DJ David August, but it's all  I have.

So you'll have to believe me if I say it was great!

Brighton Music Hall is not on any trek from Urban Trekking Boston as it is quite far from Downtown; yet for shows where the performer(s) is(are) next to the public and that ends before midnight instead of starting at midnight, it's a venue to remember.

Image
(texte en français ci-dessous)

Rabbits & roses don't mix well at the Boston Garden, like everywhere else!

What's surprising is that, on top of the squirrels that are everywhere, there are some rabbits in the middle of the city.

If you take the Beacon Hill and parks treks at night, perhaps you'll see them in front of the fence, looking at the roses out of reach!

Howardena Pindell retrospective at the Rose Museum in Waltham, MA

Image
(texte en français ci-dessous)

About the Howardena Pindell retrospective at the Rose Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, "What remains to be seen": even if you don't especially like the artist 's works, once again the Rose Museum offers an exciting show as it allows to follow Pindell creation since the 1960s until now, with her recurring themes and the transformations she operated following personal dramas and/or the evolution of the time. It's quite unusual to get 50 years of work under the same roof and it explains why, for once, her work is spread over all the galleries of the museum.

You'll have until May 19 to  go and see this show before it goes somewhere else in the USA (it has been organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago)

The Rose Museum is not on the guided tours of Urban Trekking Boston because it's in the suburbs so for once, take a car!
